Last Thursday, Pursue Pretty co-founder Ri and I attended the lawn party of the summer. But it was raining I hear you say, and where in central Holborn is there a lawn big enough for over 1,500 people? Well, it was in none other than the incredible Grand Connaught Rooms function space, transformed into a green and glitzy garden wonderland.
The De Vere Hotels #estateofplay lawn party was a night dedicated to celebrating a new era in the groups’ established and successful management of luxury hotels. Guests were given a no expenses spared insight into the glorious portfolio of De Vere estates around the United Kingdom, all to the tune of a live brass band and popping Lanson bottles.
And why not celebrate in style. Through the backing of Starwood Captial, De Vere Hotels’ £100 million investment is going to not only restore crucial aspects of these stunning period properties but also catapult them forwards to surpass even the highest expectations of each and every guest.
The rich heritage of the De Vere brand refracted off of every mirror and chandelier in the Connaught Rooms. The attention to detail that evening was evident and ensured that from dahlia to dance floor, floral wall to photobooth, the room looked exquisite.
As part of the evening, we enjoyed a menu of delectable canopies; the British staple fish and chips, as well as crab cones and Ri’s personal favourite, the cheese stand! If the food alone was anything to go by, we’d book our stay tomorrow!
However, what struck us most was as we danced away was an unashamed and not misplaced pride in De Vere’s next chapter. You could imagine that the staff of every one of the 40 restaurants and bars across the De Vere portfolio would give you the same friendly smile as the ladies who checked us in to the event. Nor was it hard to imagine the suave cocktail master extraordinare who served us our cosmos shaking your drink with the same talent and twinkle in his eye at your next event.
The magic of the night lingered far beyond our rainy journey home. In attending a lawn party in September in the rain and feeling like it was the middle of a glorious midsummers eve, De Vere made you believe whenever and wherever your stay with them was, it would be truly remarkable. It’s that wonderful escapism which is going to take me away to one of the De Vere retreats on my next staycation.
